A shrub with dark needle-like leaves and red soft brush-like flowers on one side of the stem that grows up to two metres tall. This shrub prefers an open sunny location but can tolerate some shade through the day, windy and coastal conditions. It makes a great hedge or general garden shrub and attracts nectar-feeding birds such as honeyeaters. Regular pruning will help keep this plant dense, it should be noted that flowers are borne on the stems of the previous seasons growth so pruning to old wood may affect the next season's flowering.
