Solanum laciniatum
A fast growing open erect woody shrub with purplish stems and dark green leaves that produces deep blue to purple flowers from September to December followed by egg shaped yellow to orange fruit. The fruit can be eaten when ripe, but is poisonous when green. This is a hardy shrub in most soils types and conditions except salt spray, prefers semi shade and grows 1-3 metres tall. It is short-lived but can regenerate from rootstock and is used as a screening plant with well displayed flowers and attractive fruit.
